ABOUT THIS HUNT:
I'm going to be honest with you. The thing about turkey hunting is that they never were very high on my species priority list but if I am to complete my Obsession Quest a world slam on turkeys is part of the deal.
Sorry but I once heard this species referred to as "forest chickens" as from my perspective that's pretty true. I hope you avid turkey hunters don't get me wrong, there's just as much cunning, strategy and skill in positioning the hunter for a kill as other species but turkeys just don't get my blood boiling like other animals.
When spring time comes along I'd rather be hunting black bear. I honestly agree to go on these turkey hunts for comaraderie and fellowship. They're a great way to make new friends and solidify old friendships further. Jerry Martin is my "go to" man and good friend on all my turkey hunts.
Our host and guide Fred Fanizzi had done his homework so we decided to sit in a specific clump of palmetto before dawn. Good call Fred!
We watched the birds fly over our heads and land in a food plot directly in front of us. Jerry Martin could have easily shot but in deference to my ongoing Obsession Quest, I was given the nod to take a beautiful gobbler.
We were all done and headed back to the plantation by 10 a.m. with a nice huge southern style breakfast waiting for us.
Quail Creek Plantation in Okeechobee, FL has some of THE best sporting clay places I've ever been to. I shot quail, gave my Browing Citrori quite the work out and evenn managed to catch a 10 lb bass! What's not to like about a hunt like this?!
