ABOUT THIS HUNT:
We flew into Cambridge Bay for this hunt which is the same place I took my Island Caribou and Greenland Muskox. We went 185 miles south to Baychimo.
Didn't cut a track for the whole 185 miles! Geese and sand hill cranes were flying in telling me spring was breaking up. Towards the end of the 185 mile journey we finally cut a track of what we thought was a 6 or 6.5 ft bear. We followed the tracks and it led to a cliff where the grizzly was waiting for us. Busted! Off he scurried with no opportunity for a shot. That's hunting!
We doubled back and around the the other side of the mountain to try to cut him off. We finally caught up to him and he was lumbering along when he suddenly stopped, turned and spotted us again as he was quartering away. He stopped long enough to present a shot at 150 yards where I put 180 grain Nosler ballistic in the boiler room. He went 50 yards and it was all over. No tracking required!
Nice bear at 8 foot! I shot him on my birthday 7.13.05
ABOUT THIS ANIMAL:
Barren Ground Grizzly
This was a hugh bear, 8'.
I was expecting something between 6 and 7 foot, so this was exceptional.
